U.S. Army Suicide Rate Still Rising

January 31, 2008 (LPAC) Despite all of the attention that has been focused on suicides and mental health problems in the U.S. military, the suicide rate continues to climb. The Army reported today that 121 soldiers committed suicide in 2007, a 20-percent increase over 2006. Of these, 89 are confirmed suicides, and 32 more are suspected, and still under investigation. Suicide attempts numbered 2,100 in 2007, compared to about 1,500 in 2006. The Army report came on the heels of a front-page story in this morning's Washington Post reporting on the attempted suicide, on Jan. 28, of Lt.

Al Gore and the Polar Bears

January 31, 2008--Al Gore spoke before the Jimmy Carter-Bill Clinton newly established Baptist Convention in Atlanta, Georgia today on his global warming initiatives. Gore introduced himself as the former "next elected President," but might have added that he and polar bears share a date with destiny. American statesman Lyndon LaRouche gave the following advice to Gore: "Don't make an ethanol of yourself." Gore, LaRouche said, is destined to be eaten by polar bears. He will try to escape, but get frozen in ice which he didn't think was coming.

Here Are the Facts of Substance From Florida's Primary

January 30, 2008 (LPAC)--Hillary Clinton won far more votes in the Democratic Presidential Primary's record turn-out in Florida Jan. 29, than either Republican winner John McCain, or runner-up Mitt Romney did in Florida's Republican primary. Despite the fact that none of the Democratic candidates campaigned in Florida before the primary, and it was widely publicized that no delegates would be awarded because Florida had broken the Democratic Party's rules by holding its primary early, nonetheless 854,089 voters backed Senator Clinton, with Sen.

LaRouche on Fed's New Panic Rate Cut: 'Bush and Bernanke Are Out To Sink the Dollar!'

January 30, 2008 (LPAC)--Economist and statesman Lyndon LaRouche had called the Federal Reserve's panicked, three-quarter percent cut in the Fed funds rate on Jan. 22, the trigger for imminent "hyperinflation" of the type which destroyed Weimar Germany in 1923. LaRouche has proposed the only sane alternative: a two-tier rate policy directing low-interest credit to protected economic activity and growth, while setting a high interest rate for the masses of speculative debt the Fed is currently supporting.

by Lyndon H. LaRouche, Jr. 29 January 2008 ------------------------------------------------------------ The following is addressed to a broad international audience, but is prompted by a statement by General Colonel Leonid Ivashov, the president of Russia's Academy of Geopolitical Problems, uttered by him on January 26, 2008. ------------------------------------------------------------ It must be emphasized, that the entire planet is presently gripped by a dynamic mode of general breakdown-crisis, a breakdown-crisis of the entirety of the world's financial-economic system.

German Machine-Builders Oppose ECB's Weak Dollar Policy

January 30, 2008 (LPAC)--Whereas intensified propaganda is launched in the media of Germany alleging that a weak dollar were of benefit for the German economy, because that would make imports cheaper, LaRouche Political Action Committee has learned from discussions with sources in the machine-building sector that the industry does not see any benefit at all, rather the contrary. For example the argument about imports becoming cheaper, is refuted: One or the other components coming from the dollar zone for German machines may become cheaper, but that is a neglectable effect for the Germa

According to a Russian source involved with the negotiations, Washington has decided to hold the "123" cooperation agreement, as it was called, hostage to Russian policy on Iran--meaning, trying to pressure Russia to support further UN sanctions, and other punitive measures.

London's "Lex" Tells the Fed: "It's Wrong, but You Have To Do It Anyway!"

January 28, 2008 (LPAC)--The London Financial Times' widely-read Lex column this morning is a stern lecture to the U.S. Federal Reserve Board, in advance of its Jan. 30 meeting on interest rates. "Lex" instructs the Fed that a further half-percent rate cut would be a terrible mistake, "clearly not healthy." But, he says, the Fed must do it anyway. If not, it will bear the responsibility for a still bigger plunge in markets. "Having made its bed, the Fed must lie in it," writes Lex.

A Suicide Club: MySpace, Facebook and Bebo

January 24, 2008 (LPAC)--As the British Empire assault on the institution of the sovereign nation state continues, creating the imminent danger of a repeat of the 1923 Germany Weimar hyperinflation of the U.S. dollar, followed, or accompanied, by an intended Felix Rohatyn and George Schultz inspired, Michael Bloomberg fascist dictatorship in the United States, citizens must ask, what is the link connecting the seven teens and twenty-somethings who, each, in succession, over the past year, have hung themselves in the small town of Bridgend, South Wales in the United Kingdom?

State Budget Crises Expand; Governors Opt for Austerity

January 21, 2008 (LPAC)--With 36 state legislatures now convened and Congress back in session, the cascading collapse of revenues has governors, mayors and legislators scrambling to do the impossible: balance budgets by slashing spending, and casting about for sell-offs and fixes. Minnesota declared itself in "recession" on Jan. 16. Today, Moody's Economy.com considers California, Michigan and Florida in "recession." The following instances from the Northeast, typify the national picture. NEW YORK: State budget director Laura Anglin on Jan.

But the poor are getting poorer," Marks & Spencer CEO Sir Stuart Rose said earlier this month. "I have never seen such a polarized U.K. economy." A survey by the Institute for Fiscal Studies last week said the very rich have grown richer at twice the rate of the middle class over the last decade, the London Guardian reported today. Those riches are so concentrated in the financial services sector that London is 41 percent richer than the U.K.

Nasty Reality Giving Deregulation a Bad Name

January 21, 2008 (LPAC)--Pity the poor British Empire, whose attempts to sell deregulation as the way to run a financial system are now being savagely undercut by reality. The City of London has long argued that "financial innovation" is the way to go, pushing the use of securitization and derivatives as the model for the financial system, but now that the CDOs, SIVs and other innovations so beloved by the City have blown up so spectacularly, some people--mostly those with working brains--are beginning to have doubts.

Insane Toll Proposal Debated in Pennsylvania

January 21, 2008 (LPAC) -- Indicating the level of disorientation currently infecting leading lawmakers, Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell (D) opened the bidding period for private companies to vie for leasing the historic Pennsylvania Turnpike on Jan. 18, purportedly to raise money for the state's budget needs. In 1936, Pennsylvania opened a stretch of superhighway near Carlisle, as the first modern turnpike in the nation; today it spans 360 miles statewide. "This is evidence of how mentally disoriented members of Congress have become," Lyndon LaRouche said of the proposal.

Privatization Hitting Snags--Swindlers Try Something New

January 21, 2008 (LPAC) -- The Danish government-owned energy company, Dong Energy A/S, has postponed a sell-off to private investors because of the collapsing share price. The company had been recently valued at between $11 to $13 billion, but is slipping fast. Privatization of government-owned enterprises was a nice swindle, while it lasted--just ask Ken Lay. Now that the swindlers have run out of private money, they'll have to try something new--like the Schwarzenegger-Bloomberg "infrastructure" rip-off, for example.

The Rockefeller Debut

January 21, 2008 (LPAC)--The Rockefellers of today, like the Rockefellers of yesterday, need your help bringing a change to America, like they helped bring a change to Europe in the 1930's with the help of their London and New York friends. The Rockefeller Foundation is committed to bringing this change, and in order to satisfy your needs, they are funding the new "Mussolini" Coalition, to make infrastructure funding a national priority. Under their leadership, the trains will surely run on time.

Feudalism Tolls For Thee, Pennsylvania

January 19, 2008 (LPAC)--The State of Pennsylvania, in dire straits because its economy is dying, is planning to erect toll booths on Interstate 80, to raise money. I-80 runs from New York to San Francisco, including a 300-mile stretch across northern Pennsylvania, and the state expects to levy charges of $25 for cars and $93 for commercial trucks traveling the entire route, and lesser amounts for shorter trips. The idea of charging citizens to drive on roads built with public money may seem like organized theft to some, mainly because it is, but it is also asinine as an economic policy.

Amelia Boynton Robinson’s Statement in Honor of Martin Luther King Jr.

The following is a statement issued by Amelia Boynton Robinson, in honor of Martin Luther King Day, 2008. During the 1960s, Mrs. Robinson's home and office in Selma, Alabama became the center of that city's famous civil rights battles, used by Dr. King and his lieutenants, by Congressmen and attorneys from around the nation, to plan the demonstrations that would lead eventually to the Voting Rights Act of 1965. In 1964, she was the first female African-American ever to seek a seat in Congress from Alabama, and the first woman, white or black, to run on the Democratic ticket in the state. Amelia Robinson today is a leading member and Vice Chairman of the Schiller Institute, founded by Lyndon LaRouche and Helga Zepp-LaRouche in 1984. Mrs. Robinson considers the Institute to be "following in the footsteps of Martin Luther King."

A stimulus, said LaRouche, means "more monetary aggregate!

If You Want Financial Stimulus, Go To a Sex Clinic!

January 18, 2008 (LPAC) - Econonist Lyndon LaRouche addressed proposals for economic stimulus in an international webcast Jan. 17. "We have a bankrupt system," LaRouche said, "which is inherently bankrupt, in which the amount of monetary aggregate being generated to bail out - as you see the bailouts occurring today - to bail out an inflated, explosive mass of financial aggregate, has reached the point that it is now going to accelerate at such a rate, that the question is, whether the U.S.

The author of the Biofuels Act of 2007, Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago, is now recognizing that the conversion of agricultural land to biofuels production is threatening the food supply. As she said on Jan.

A Real Brutish Fairy Tale

The truth of the presently onrushing, general breakdown-crisis of the present world monetary-financial system, can not be competently understood, nor remedies for that crisis found, unless we shift our attention from the apparent world-center of the present world financial crisis, away from that London sideshow curiously identified as the British government, to the real, global financial system which has controlled the world, including London, increasingly, since the U.S. Nixon Administration's August 15-16, 1971 collapsing of the Bretton Woods monetary system.
