Number Three Republican in House Calls on Gonzales to Resign
May 4 (EIRNS)--Rep. Adam Putnam (R-Fla), the chairman of the policy-setting Republican Conference Committee in the U.S. House of Representatives, is calling on Attorney General Gonzales to resign, according to a May 4 report in the Lakeland, Florida Ledger .
"I had been saying all along that his (Gonzales') future was in his own hands by his testimony before the Senate committee, and I don't think he did well," Putnam said, referring to Gonzales's April 19 testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee. "His credibility is so severely damaged with the committee that he is no longer able to advance the president's programs before Congress," Putnam added.
Putnam is known to be a strong supporter of President Bush, and the Ledger suggests that his call for Gonzales to go, "may well be intended as a House Republican message to the White House."
