Neocon Warhawk Adelman Joins Al Gore in Biological Genocide
May 12 (EIRNS) - Kenneth Adelman, who helped launch the Iraq war with his cohorts Richard Perle and Paul Wolfowitz has launched an hysterical public diatribe against the nation of Thailand on behalf of the U.S. pharmaceutical companies, and Abbott Laboratories in particular. In a series of ads in the Thai press and a lobbying campaign in the U.S. Congress, Adelman is accusing Thailand of lies, deceit, and criminal activity in its decision to domestically produce anti-AIDS drugs patented by Abbott and other pharmaceutical companies. This places Adelman in the company of the racist Al Gore, who in 1998-99 famously threatened South Africa with sanctions if it continued producing generic drugs for the nation's AIDS victims. Bill Clinton, on the other hand, this past week, explicitly supported Thailand's defense of life, as well as similar measures by the Brazilian government in granting "compulsory licensing" to domestically produce patented drugs. Adelman once famously projected that the Iraq war would be a "cakewalk." He now works for the Edelman Public Relations firm which represents Abbott Labs, and has created a front group for the attack on Thailand, called "U.S.A for Innovation," which took out the ads and posted a list of ten alleged lies by the Thai Health Minister Mongkol na Songkhla, on the website www.thailies.com. The "lies" include: "Thailand is a poor country...; Thailand is in an AIDS crisis...; Thailand's use of compulsory licenses is legal...; the U.S. action threatens Thailand's sovereignty." Not only are these all true, but the producer of the generic AIDS drug in Thailand, the Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO), announced that it will sue Adelman's group for its false claim that the Thai-produced drug is less effective than the original.
