Dracula To Stop Blood-Sucking? Cerberus Promises No More Layoffs, No Breakup of Chrysler
May 16 (EIRNS)--Taken in by honeyed lies, Canadian Auto Workers President Buzz Hargrove has dropped his opposition to Cerberus' takeover of Chrysler, saying that Cerberus founder Stephen Feinberg has assured him he plans no new jobs cuts in Canada until September 2008, Chrysler had already announced 13,000 job cuts announced for the U.S. and Canada. After Feinberg met May 15 with leaders of Chrysler's two main labor unions, Hargrove said he was confident "this is not about slice and dice ... they're in for the long term," according to the Wall Street Journal .
And Chrysler Chief Executive Officer Tom LaSorda gave Hargrove a signed letter "guaranteeing there will be no layoffs as a result of this ownership change," the Detroit Free Press reported. On Monday, UAW president Ron Gettelfinger said he now supports the deal. LaSorda also insisted at a press conference May 15, that the company does not plan to sell off any of its three brands -- Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep. "These brands are staying together. They will not be broken up under any circumstances."
