Peter Welch (D-VT), who was battered by his constituents and LaRouche Youth Movement representatives at a May 12 town meeting on impeachment, defied voters and constituents and denounced the impeachment of Bush and Cheney as a bad "tactic." Welch defended his own opposition to impeaching Bush and Cheney in a speech on the House floor today. "I do not believe impeachment is the answer," Welch said, while pretending to praise the Vermont impeachment movement, and claiming that "I endorse the indictment of the current Administration" -- such as for the use of "false intelligence" to justify the Iraq war.

A Selectman from Newfane, Vermont, Dan DeWalt, told the Brattleboro Reformer that he considers Welch's comments as "the citizen appeasement speech," adding: "Speeches do not impress me. Actions impress me. And these people (in Congress) are incapable of action."
