<body><div id="article"><tr><td height="28" valign="middle" width="184"></td><td valign="middle" width="185"></td></tr><h1>China Sets Up an Agency to Develop Third Generation Nuclear Power Plants</h1><p>May 22 (LPAC)--China has set up a nuclear power technology company tasked with introducing and developing third-generation nuclear technology, the official <em>Xinhua</em> news agency reported today. Wang Binghua, the former general manager of China Power Investment, has been appointed the chairman of the State Nuclear Power Technology Co Ltd., it said.</p><p>The new agency, the State Nuclear Power Technology Co., which was officially inaugurated on May 22, is already close to concluding its talks with Westinghouse Electric Co. on introduction of the latter's third-generation nuclear power technologies, the Chinese company's president, Wang Binghua. An agreement is expected to be signed next month, Wang said. The framework for the contract was signed earlier on March 1, which says Westinghouse will provide four third-generation pressurized water reactors: two for Sanmen City, in east China's Zhejiang Province, and two for Haiyang City in east China's Shandong Province.</p></div></body>
