In Ibero-America, where wide-scale treatment provision began earlier, an estimated 834,000 life years have been gained since 2002.

Imagine the numbers of human lives we could save, by crushing the financier genocide lobby represented by Al Gore and his pharmaceutical companies buddies! As former Congressman Billy Tauzin who now heads Pharma, the pharmaceuticals lobby, said today--money and "intellectual property rights" are more important than people.

According to the WHO/UNAIDS report, despite a ten-fold increase in people in sub-Saharan Africa receiving antiretrovirals since December 2003, less than one quarter (23%) of the estimated 4.6 million people in that region who need them, receive treatment.

Antiretroviral drugs depress the amount of HIV virus in the people infected, by inhibiting the mechanisms by which the virus reproduces. This not only extends the life spans of the individuals who receive them, but it slows down the spread of the epidemic generally.
