<body><div id="article"><tr><td height="28" valign="middle" width="184"></td><td valign="middle" width="185"></td></tr><h1>Russian-Italian Railroad Project Discussed</h1><p>May 28, 2007 (LPAC)--At the just-concluded Second International Business Forum "Strategic Partnership 1520" in Sochi, Russia, more East-West development initiatives have been put on the table by the Russians, the website of Russian Railways reports today.</p><p>Vladimir Yakunin, president of Russian Railways, and Pierfrancesco Guarguaglini, Chairman of the Board at Finmeccanica, the leading producer of rail technology in Italy, signed a "Concept for an Integrated Russian-Italian Train Management and Safety System." The Concept provides for the use of innovative radio systems to improve the safety of fast freight and passenger trains on the Russian railway system.</p><p>These systems are currently in use on the Italian express railway network and allow trains to be in permanent contact with control centers. They can be easily adapted to the Russian system. Vladimir Yakunin, president of Russian Railways, said, "We greatly appreciate the cooperation with a leader in making automated train management systems, as well as the atmosphere of mutual understanding in which our partnership has developed."</p></div></body>
