The rioters were gathered at the notorious "Rote Flora" youth center, a frequent site of street fights with police. Cars were burned, windows smashed, 6 policemen wounded, and 64 persons were arrested, of whom about 30 were held. The ASEM event was only a pretext. Police said they could not rule out daily riots from now until June 6-8, G-8 Summit. About 3,000 policemen had already been pre-stationed in Hamburg even before ASEM, in expectation of riots. The G-8 Summit itself, in Heiligendamm, in northern Germany, will be protected by at least 16,000 police.</p></div></body>
